Donation Workshop

Once a month Let's Go Crafting hosts a donation workshop.  Donation Workshop days are free and students join us to make something that benefits a charitable organization.  This month we made cat beds for the animal shelter in Palo Alto.

This month's team of fantastic students!! 

We used old towels (most of them were donated by our community) to make the beds.

 The kids cut the towels and sewed them and then stuffed the outside channel to make them more comfortable for the cats.

 We had soooo much fun!!


Some of our students even made two beds!! Thank you to everyone who donated and who came to sew!!!

We sure are getting a lot done in class these past couple of weeks!

Quilting some fabric.Finishing up a Cutting her weaving off the loom.Table runner done!Table runner doubling as a scarf for now.Laying out fabric for a quilt.Finishing her demented teardrop stuffie.Teardrop complete!Working on a Lion Pillow Cover.Working on the tail to his Lion pillow case.So many students sewing!Working on the hem of her robe.Hemming.Lots of hand sewing going on here.Hem stitching her woven fabric.Ooooh! Girl Scout Sewing Workshop

A little while ago, I led a Girl Scout Sewing Workshop that was tons of fun!  I had to come up with an idea that they could complete in one session so I created the Lined Book Bag (click on the link to go to the tutorial).  There were 12 girls who came to our workshop - only one of those knew how to sew.Practicing.The first order of business was to show the girls how to use the machines.  Then they practiced on scrap pieces of fabric until they got the hang of sewing a straight line.  This usually only takes about 20 minutes.Sewing bags.

After picking their fabric for the bags, they got started right away.  Then they were off an running!

The girls also learned to use an iron safely - a very important skill to have!

All 12 girls went home with finished book bags!  What a great group they are!
